Untrash Aquatic Park - Sun Oct 11th from 4 to 6
Time & Location
About the Event
We will be meeting again on the Northern edge of Aquatic Park, to get there Drive West on Addison St.
The plan this week is to:
• Continue cleaning the highway verge areas of highway litter
• Deep clean the sitting areas and the walking path on the Western side of the park.
• Deep clean the Western edge of the lake.
Deep cleaning means removing all the micro-trash. In the dry-land areas, there is a lot of micro-trash in the sitting and picnic areas, and around the trash cans. Cleaning micro-trash changes the feel of an area, and makes it feel natural again, it reduces follow-on trashing. Cleaning trash cans makes them more appealing, which also reduces littering.
A small rake can be handy for this, I'll bring one.
There is also a coating of micro-trash which rings the lake edge, we need work along the lake-edge in particular. To work the lake edge, bring shoes/pants that you don't mind getting muddy.
SPECIAL NOTE TO AQUATIC PARK BOAT PEOPLE!
First, Welcome! You were well represented last Sunday.
Our group, Untrash East Bay (www.untrash.it) organizes weekly work parties to clean up trash around the East Bay, we recently completed a cleanup along Grizzly Peak removing 440 bags of trash, and are now turning to the 'target-rich' Aquatic Park area. We'll be basically chasing the problem all over the park, expect a dozen or more cleanups over the next months. We're starting in the Northern corner, because it's a little less intense, and will gradually work our way around the lake and environs.
We could particularly use KAYAKERS and SMALL BOATERS for Near-Shore Cleaning - we have Picker Tools we can give you.
