Help us Launch 10,000 Untrash Groups
Announcing Untrash, the Platform. We are building a software platform to help launch 10,000 Untrash Groups, and are actively seeking Investors, Developers and Partners for this effort. If you would like to help us make it happen, please get in touch!
Our Mission
Our Mission is to solve the trash problem at its roots: by changing the social norms, and fixing the structural problems that drive littering and dumping.
We start by cleaning up trashed areas, then we put in place solutions that reduce littering and dumping permanently. We have an experimental and data-driven approach, and trial many different interventions to reduce trashing.
Our goal is to eliminate trashing permanently.
Our Projects
Untrash East Bay Currently has 7 Active Projects
Western University Encampments, Aquatic Park, Grizzly Peak, Strawberry Canyon, Wildcat Canyon, Mosswood Park in Oakland, and Berkeley Streets.
Current Project
Aquatic Park
About
We are deep-cleaning Aquatic Park and the surrounding areas.
Our first five work parties, removed 244 bags of trash and cleaned 1.8 miles of shoreline. They are just the start of 20 or so planned work parties in and around the park. We meet every Sunday afternoon, for two hours.
We are grateful for support from the City of Berkeley Parks, Rec. & Waterfront Dept for supplying bags, and trash pickup; and the City of Oakland Adopt-a-Spot Program for supplying equipment.

Mosswood Park / Kaiser Hospital Cleanup
Originally, this project in honor of the Kaiser Hospital staff who were facing the Covid storm.
But as we got deeper into cleaning the park, we realized that the park itself was deeply compromised by the impact of the homeless campsites that overtook the park in 2019. That legacy includes hundreds of hypodermic needles and micro-trash embedded in the mud.
Our goal is to restore the park to a state where anyone can experience the feel of an oak forest; and it's once again safe for kids to play.
This cleanup includes Mosswood Park itself and the Highway offramps in this area.
We are very grateful for support from the City of Oakland Public Works Environmental Stewardship Team for providing us with bags, gloves and tools. And Oakland Public Works for providing trash pickup via the Oak 311 Program

Current Project
Strawberry Canyon Cleanup
From the Stadium to Grizzly Peak along Centennial. Our current focus is the area around the Strawberry Canyon Firetrail parking lot (see outlined area on map).
There is a large amount of trash on the hillside above the pools, primarily from camp sites in the woods. When we've completed this, we'll move up the canyon.
We are very grateful for support from UC Berkeley Facility Services, Landscape Services Operations for trash pickup.
